WAWA ONT.

1) STAY AWAY FROM WAWA ONTARIO! seriously if you get a ride that is going to drop you in wawa wait for another ride. Wawa is an abys that suck the life force from would be travelers.

2) i did toronto to winipeg in 24 hrs. that was almost non stop i caught a trucker into TO from kenora.

3) winipeg to calgary is about 24 hrs in my various experiences in sask. they do not like hitchhikers. the police do not like hichers, the RCMP do not like hitchhikers and the locals generally do not like ANYONE who is younger than 60 and have never lived on a farm. in broadview sask. the RCMP actually took our water away from us (it was 40degrees that day) and made us stand in the grass (which wouldnt have been so bad if it wasnt the hight of wood tick season) Sask. SUCKS. if you find a truck stop before the border try and get a ride straight through. seriously the only thing other than ALOT of nothing is a hill with a tree on it (i am not kidding, it is called tree hill)

4) Alberta is decent for traveling if you are headed towards edmonton the longest ive ever had to wait is about 2 hrs, on a rainy night with low traffic

5) west of calgary is hitchhikers paradise. friendly people and interesting everything. B.C. is hard to go wrong with. but be careful if you get a trucker arround Golden B.C. make sure they havent been driving more than 12 hrs. once you see the road coming from Golden you will understand.

6) oh yeah Sask. REALLY SUCKS ive bussed accross the last 2 time i travelled because i hate it SOOOO much.

hear hear man, i actually stayed in wawa overnight, but i was lucky because the dude who picked me up was leaving the next day again to edmonton. I was soooo lucky, i heard horror stories too about wawa. This guy took me all the way from north bay to winnipeg it was freaaaking awesome.. Winnipeg was weird, and manitoba was a bitch to get out of. Interesting story, i was just on the west side of brandon manitoba, and i was getting pissed off at all the fat, miserable looking people who looked like they wanted to run me over for trying to travel for free (like this guy said, people in mid canada hate hitchers, but, my optimism won me out) so i asked, i yelled at the universe for a sign... then i looked suddenly over at my bag and there was a piece of cardboard that i didnt see when i got there, and i said "Regina" quietly under my breath, and on the other side of the cardboard Regina was already written......the universe has a sense of humor at times hehe, i subsequently got picked up in 15 minutes and then got dropped off in the middle of nowhere, and waited three hours. And when youve never waited longer than an hour, three hours was bad, and especially since, everyone that drove past me looked like they thought i should die there on the side of the road (sorry, ive got a bit of bad feelings still....lol) the guys who picked me up ended up being old hitch hikers and train hoppers,.good times good times

so to all of you perspective hitchers,, just make sure you got enough food and water for like a day or two, cause you never know, and just remember, that someone no matter how long it takes , will pick you up

it also helps to do a song and dance to the hitch hiking gods......works for me :P

Oh yeah, Mid Canada...... Hitchhiking hell. If you must hitch though, Two things to remember (three if the ritual dance to the hitching gods is not already deeply engrained in your daily routine)

      1) MAY IS WOOD TICK SEASON IN SASKATCHEWAN..... the little shitz are EVERYWHERE, STAY OUT OF THE DITCHES AT ALL TIMES IN THIS TIME (and probably durring most of the rest of the year too)

      2) That place gets bloody hot in the summer and people hate picking up strangers. Refil water at ALL oportunities and bring more than you think youll need, you can ditch the extra wight in Calgary or Winipeg, depending on your direction of travel. Dont count on the police (or RCMP in most cases where the towns are too small to justify their own police force) I have actually waited in 40 degree (celcius obviously) heat for 9 hrs (outside Broadview Sask) and the police would not help us, wither it was water, or a ride 10k down the road to the next town (fair enough its not their job to taxi freeloading hippies arround) But what got me is that they threatened to put us in PRISON for the night if we didnt stand in the ditch (with the tick infestation). Yeah they were real assholes
